Summer Hair Essentials

When it comes to Summer and your hair, I am sure you get just as stressed as I do. I mean my anxiety about my hair is a daily thing (but that is for another post). Since the texture of my hair is very different from a few of my friends that I hang out with, I am constantly in search for hair styling products that I can use to maintain my bounce in between relaxers. So for me, styling products are important because my hair can be so finicky. In the last few years, I have changed up my process on how I treat my hair. I try to only use a curling iron once a week (stay away from HEAT as much as possible) and use natural products to keep my hair hydrated, especially in the Winter, but in the Summer it is a different story!

For the month of July, I played around with a few different products from my favorite place, Follain (see how I spent my 30th birthday there, on the blog here).

I have been trying to use more natural and organic beauty products and Follain is my go-to when I am trying to discover new items for my skin, face and hair.

Here are a few of the styling products that I tried this month...

Not that this is TMI, but one might think that I shampoo my hair every day, but in reality when it comes to a black women's hair and one who has a relaxer, one cannot shampoo it everyday, so that is when dry shampoo comes in handy. I have gone through quite a few, but the minute I tried Rahua Voluminous Dry Shampoo, I was immediately in love! I felt like I walked right out of the beauty salon after I was done brushing my hair. At first, I was afraid to use a powder because of the white residue that might be left over, but that was not a problem at all. It blended so well. I have very thin hair and it gave my hair a nice enough bounce to make it look full. I have definitely been happy with the results that I have seen.

Sometimes, I have the problem of holding a curl especially in the humidity of the Summer, so hair spray becomes my best friend when I curl my hair (which is not very often) and the fact that  Josh Rosebrook Firm Hold Hair Spray is non-toxic for the environment makes me feel better when I am dosing my head with it, and your hair does not get that stiff feel that you sometimes get with other hairsprays. I love the citrus scent that it gives off once you are done spraying!

When I was thinking about what products to try, I wanted to make sure that I also had an item that I could easily fit in my carry-on, since  I have been traveling this summer. When I saw that Lulu Organics Lavender and Clary Sage Hair Powder had a travel size version of their dry shampoo, I thought why not and and it has proved to be a life saver especially for a quick touch up in the plane bathroom. I know we have all been there!
